Purpose: This study was to verify the effect of a school violence prevention program on harassment, victimization, and interpersonal relationships in adolescents.
Methods: This research design was a quasi- experimental pre-and-post test control and an experimental group methodological comparison study. The total subjects were 255 middle school students in G-city. The experimental group received a twelve session program, but the control group did not receive treatment. Data was collected by self-reported structured questionnaires from April 1st to July 15th 2006, and analyzed with frequency, percentage, x2-test, and t-test using the SPSS/WIN 15.0 program.
Results: Harassment wasn¡¯t significantly different(t=-.960, p=.339) between the groups, although in the experimental group, harrassment decreased. Victimization was significantly different(t=-2.470, p=.014), and interpersonal relationships were significantly different(t=2.316, p=.021) between groups.
Conclusion: Based on the above findings, the authors suggest that a comparison study on the effect of a school violence prevention program be done. Also, school-based prevention programs for adolescents need to be developed according to the harassment and victimization level.
